小萨，小萨克斯也。它是一种简易型的萨克斯乐器。小巧美观，便于携带，故又有人称这类乐器为口袋萨克斯、迷你萨克斯、魔笛等。国内外类似的产品还有竹萨克斯、和平管、Xaphoon、Tupian等。

小萨采用与萨克斯完全相同的笛头（又称吹嘴），吹奏小萨与吹奏萨克斯的嘴上功夫近乎相同，会吹萨克斯的乐手，第一次拿起小萨就能吹奏，同样会吹小萨的乐手，也能立即吹萨克斯。因为它们吹奏乐器的“口活”是相同的。所有的嘴上功夫，如吐音、吼音、滑音等等，二者皆可相互通用。小萨采用了与萨克斯完全相同的笛头，显然其声音之“源”与萨克斯是完全相同的，因而其音色十分接近萨克斯。与萨克斯一样，小萨的笛头与管体也是分开设计。通过笛头与管体连接深度的改变，可以微调整个乐器的音高。笛头与管体分开，乐手可以使用不同风口和不同材质的笛头，以获得自己想要的音响效果。

借助在电脑上的现代工业设计及3D打印模型技术，经过长期反复的实验测试，最终确定了小萨现有的外形和音孔数据。小萨的音孔排列进行的设计是科学实用的，使这种无按键管乐器也能方便地吹奏出连续完整的全音阶音。更巧妙的是在整个乐器最低音上再向下延伸一个半音，以及增加了一个较为常用的#F音孔，使小萨演奏的乐曲范围更广、指法更加便捷。这两项前无古人的音孔设计，获得了国家认可的实用新型专利！
